Ambon City

     Ambon, the capital city of the Province of Maluku, lies on an island of the same name. Ambon city, "Citadel Amboina" was erected by the Portuguese in mid-1500 (1576?). The embrio of the city started when the Portuguese built a wooden fort called "Nosa Sendhora da Anunciada". Later on. in 1605, the Portuguese fort was captured by the Dutch and took over the authority over Ambon and the Moluccas. The Portuguese fort was remaned "Fort Nieuw Victoria".
